IOPSA’s function; Developing Standards, Training, Arbitration, Regional Informative Meetings, training of Building Control Officers. IOPSA is the recognized Authority on Plumbing in South Africa with Representation at SAIA, SABS, SAQA, Department of Water Affairs, SESSA and NAMB. IOPSA currently represents over 700 Plumbing Contractors, Merchants and Suppliers.

The PIRB works proactively to promote and encourage plumbing practices in South Africa through the upliftment of the training and skills development at all levels in the plumbing sector. The PIRB promotes, monitors and maintains expertise and competencies among industry professionals.

  • November 2012 the South African Qualifications Authority Board approved the recognition of the Plumbing Industry Registration Board as a Professional Body. This recognition was done in accordance with section 28 to 31 of the National Qualifications Framework Act, 2008 (Act no 67 of 2008). The PIRB is aligned with the objectives laid out by SAQA for professional bodies.

Certificates of compliance are compulsory in terms of the relevant standards in terms of Geysers, Heat Pumps and Solar installations. These Certificates may only be issued by a PIRB Plumber.
